I’m Dr. Nnaja Okorafor

I’m a medical doctor, recipe creator, photographer, and writer for TheVeganri. As you eat the meals from my recipes, may your heart be filled with joy, your soul filled with laughter, and your body rejuvenated by the revitalizing nutrients.

Vegan Diet

The vegan diet excludes all animal products, and when practiced well is associated with various health benefits.  The vegan diet improves health, decreases inflammation, promotes weight loss, decreases the risk of heart disease and many chronic diseases. My goal is to provide you with resources that will help you reap the results of these benefits.  


The vegan recipes on this site are flavorful plant-based whole-foods meals. They include a wide variety of unprocessed ingredients. The recipes here are influenced by my Nigerian heritage and from my love of exploring food from various cultures. Therefore, the dishes are nutritious, healthy, rich and tasty. 

Health and Nutrition

During my medical training, I learned the science of diseases and how to treat them using medications. What I did not learn was the science of high-quality nutrition, and how it can be used as a tool to reduce risk of, and even reverse chronic illnesses. I  enjoy learning the abundance of evidence-based information on the most nutritious foods.  This blog is my way of sharing my passion for healthy living with you.

The Motivation for the Blog 

 While there are multiple factors that affect life expectancy and quality of life; diet and nutrition play a major role.  My hope is If I can get more people to increase their consumption of whole plant-based foods, especially fresh vegetables and fruits; we can then all improve the lives that we live and enjoy and healthy fruitful life.
